Food Pantry Services“Neighbor-To-Neighbor Food Pantry”

Our Food Pantry ministry began more than 40 years ago, serving our friends and neighbors living in the surrounding neighborhoods. We first operated out of the basement of the church. Since the early 1980’s we have been assisted by our neighbor volunteers from the Church of the Ascension. We have operated out of our converted garage building behind the church since October of 2000, to better serve our community. The need in our community has grown. The food pantry served 232 families in 1990 to 2000 families in 2013.

How We Operate

This is an ALL VOLUNTEER STAFF from Greenmont-Oak Park and Ascension churches. Volunteers meet with client families to provide groceries and weekly restock and maintain the pantry. Food is supplied from “The Food Bank” and through area churches and organizations holding food collections. Our pantry primarily serves Kettering & SE Dayton zip code areas. Families are referred to us by social agencies or word of mouth.

Families in Need ~ Operation Information

We serve families living in zip code areas: 45419, 45420, 45429, and part of 45432 south of Linden Ave. Our hours of serving food to families are: Mondays 4:30 to 5:30 PM Wednesdays 5:30 to 6:30 PM Saturdays 10 to 11 a.m. You may come at the beginning of the hour to be served on a first come first served bases. There is a limit of 15 families that can be served each day of operation. At every visit, each client must bring a photo ID, and recent mail as proof of address for each adult in their household. You must wait at least 30 days between any two visits. Due to our limited resources, we can only offer assistance a maximum of 8 times per year.

How to Help

Several area Kettering churches, businesses & organizations hold regular food drives to assist the community. More than half of the food we give out is provided by “The Food Bank,” a government food program. The rest is food or money  donated to purchase foods. Donations are always welcome. We can receive donations of money or food through Greenmont Oak Park Community Church and Ascension Catholic Church to help with operating costs.
